I have heard some people say that we need a reset button for 2020. When I consider all that is going on in our country right now I can understand that sentiment completely. It can feel very heavy to wake up to the news each day of the continuing conflicts, injustices, and threats to our country and the world.
We can’t close our eyes and our ears and ignore it, but the weight of it all can be easier to bear if we set our minds on the truth of God’s Word. If you are struggling to carry all of these burdens plus whatever personal problems you have, these verses will give you something to set your mind on today.
I am making all things new
Here is some encouragement for you today. God is currently in the process of making all things new. There is a reset button on the way! John records this truth in Revelation 21:5.
Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
All of the problems in the world right now will be dealt with. All of the problems in your life will come to a glorious and beautiful end. I love this aspect of God. He makes beauty from ashes and turns mourning into joy (Isaiah 61:3). Today, it may look like things are crumbling all around you, but remember the hope you have in a God who makes all things new.
A new earth
I know it’s not the first time you have heard or read these verses, but take a moment to read through them in light of what is happening in the world today. Take some time to read through them in light of what is happening in your life right now.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”Revelation 21:1-4
These verses give us so much hope. Paul felt it so many years ago when he considers that the sufferings of (even his) present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). We feel it still today as we eagerly wait for God to create a new heaven and a new earth for us to live in.
A new you.
It’s not just a new world that we long for. Romans 8:22-25 explains that as all of creation groans as if in childbirth, we ourselves are groaning, and eagerly awaiting our redemption. Fighting this battle with sin is exhausting. There are times when it looks like we are losing but the truth is God is making all things new, including us. God began a good work in us at salvation, and he will complete that work in glory (Philippians 1:6). I know how hard it can be to get up and fight each new day but we can rest in the fact that one day the battle with our flesh will be over. We were not meant to be perfect today. God’s plan is that this is a daily process. Be patient with yourself as you surrender to God’s good plan. Have hope that he is making you new.
Today, you will hear troubling news. You will face difficult personal problems. You will once again fight the daily battle with your flesh. But you can face all of this looking through the lens of hope that there is a new world and a new you on the way. In fact, they are already in the process of being made new. What good news to think about today!
Check out this song I have been listening to it over and over the last couple of weeks. Add it to your playlist to be reminded that God makes all things new!
